Five-point-four hectare Westridge is a long narrow West Edmonton residential community. It is bounded on the southeast by the scenic North Saskatchewan River valley. On the northeast, it overlooks Patricia Ravine. On the south, it is adjacent to Wolf Willow Ravine.
Being near the river valley and ravines makes Westridge a popular residential and recreational choice.
Westridge’s western edge is 170 Street. Controlling noise and traffic, Westridge can be entered only through Wolf Willow Road.
Before its development, Westridge was Wolf Willow Farm. Wolf Willow Road runs through the neighbourhood.
Four in five homes were built in the seventies. The rest were constructed in the eighties. Over nine in ten are single-family owner-occupied detached homes. Quiet and scare traffic in the neighbourhood is achieved through winding, curvilinear roads and keyhole crescents.
Westridge has three neighbourhood churches: Beulah Alliance Church, Living Life House of God Ministry, and Grace Assembly Full Gospel Church.
Area schools include Belmead School, Patricia Heights School, H.E. Beriault Catholic Junior High School, Our Lady of Victories, Ecole Prematernelle Bobino Bobinette, Rio Terrace Community Preschool, Westridge-Wolf Willow Play School, Erudit, Beaux Esprits Playschool, Revolution Music International, and West Edmonton Playschool, Shoppers have many amenities available at Westridge strip mall and West Edmonton Mall to the north along 170 Street.
The Westridge Wolf Willow Country Club runs Westridge Park. The association maintains a community hall, outdoor rink and tennis courts. There are also many well-placed trails including Patricia Ravine Trail, a city park where residents can walk, run, jog, walk their dogs, bird watch and take photos.
Westridge capitalizes on ravines and river valley green space with such amenities as Wolf Willow Stairs, a city park.
Other recreation and fitness facilities in the area include: Canora Community League recreation centre, Jasper Place Fitness and Leisure Centre, and Jasper Place Wellness Centre
One of Edmonton’s most visited tourist attractions, Fort Edmonton Park offers Westridge’s residents and visitors educational and entertaining trips through Edmonton’s history.
At the northwest corner of Westridge, the 170 Street interchange with Whitemud Drive provides easy access to the University of Alberta, University hospital, Fort Edmonton Park, and Downtown Edmonton.
There is easy access via Whitemud Drive to Downtown Edmonton by car. It takes just a few minutes. There, Westridge residents can take advantage of the dining, shopping, entertainment, and nightlife opportunities in a large urban area.
