Formerly called Beau Park and Bridgeland, its Calgary Trail residents renamed it Parkallen in 1945. Parkallen, Strathcona’s neighbouring community, is near the University of Alberta.
The neighbourhood became a popular place to live after WWII. Houses are mostly single-detached bungalows and semi-bungalows. The land is centred around a school and a park. There are several low-rise apartments overlooking the park.
A small commercial area is easily accessible to local residents.
Parkallen is bounded by three major roads but the community has very little traffic. Traffic noise on the arteries is buffered by attractively landscaped boulevards.
For shopping, Parkallen residents have ready access to Southgate Shopping Centre and the University of Alberta campus shops.
Local residents enjoy the close-knit community atmosphere.
LRT connects Parkallen to downtown where the many amenities, entertainment, dining, and nightlife opportunities appeal to students and other Parkallen residents.
